Pupil Premium

In 2011 the Pupil Premium was introduced to increase the attainment and aspiration of pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds and close the gap between them and their peers. The Pupil Premium Grant is allocated to initiatives to ensure pupils reach their full potential, both academically and socially.

In the academic year 2020-2021 St Mary’s School will receive £54,120 of Pupil Premium funding, supporting 43 children in total.

Our Pupil Premium Strategy

When deciding how to spend the Pupil Premium Grant ('PPG') it is important that we look at the potential barriers to learning faced by Pupil Premium pupils in the context of our school. Each child entitled to the PPG is unique in their situation and our response to their needs must reflect this.

With this in mind, at St Mary’s, we aim to provide a highly-personalised programme of support in order to allow each child to reach their full potential.

What we use funding to support

To support the professional development of staff to ensure the highest quality teaching and pastoral support for children
To fund top-of-the-range technology which supports children’s ability to access learning both in school and remotely (in the event of Covid-19 closures)
To fund research-based learning programmes such as Accelerated Reader, which aims to increase children’s reading skills
To part-fund children’s participation in enrichment activities, such as residential trips, swimming lessons, clubs and music tuition.
To part-fund uniform
To provide additional teaching sessions to pre-teach content and/or consolidate learning
